Around 60 % of the total clergy ( around 2300) and laity of the Syro Malabar Church ( 16 million) appealed to Rome to grant permission to continue the Holy Mass facing people, which have been in practice for more than 50 years in the Syro Malabar Church. The clergy of the Archdiocese of Ernakulam adopted a resolution to continue celebrating the Holy Mass facing people. They told the news media that there was no consultation or consensus on this matter, and it was imposed without any discussion or consultation with clergy or laity. Laity and clergy expect that the Vatican will intervene on this issue as this is a grave concern and disrupts the country's law and order.

Synod destroyed the peace in the Syro Malabar Church.

News media reports that the uniformity imposed destroyed peace that existed in the Church. The dispute began almost four decades ago when the Church attempted to renew its liturgy. However, a faction of the group wants to pull back the Church for the restoration that created irreparable damages and tensions in the Church. "Our Church was a peaceful one, but certain bishops whose dictatorship attitude ruined the Church. We strongly believe that Pope Francis will rectify this tension and bring peace to the Church. Cardinal Alencherry, who is flagrantly involved with criminal activities in the land deal controversy, wants to protect himself by diverting people's attention through this liturgy ordeal. It is unwanted and untimely as people are suffering from the unprecedented pandemic. We strongly believe that Pople will understand the truth and act for the people of God.” Thomas Mathew, a committed catechist of the Archdiocese of Ernakulam, responded to laity 4 justice news reporter.
